BYD Sealion 7 has officially made its way to Malaysia. The new electric SUV is BYD’s fifth fully electric release in our market after the Atto 3, Dolphin, Seal, and M6.

For Malaysia, the Sealion 7 can be obtained in two variants:

  • BYD Sealion 7 Performance: RM183,800
  • BYD Sealion 7 Premium: RM199,800

Regardless of the variant that you prefer, there are 4 colourways to choose from including Cosmos Black, Aurora White, Atlantis Grey, and Shark Grey. As part of the launch, Sime Darby Motors is now offering a free home charger and RM800 worth of charging credits to customers who purchase and register their Sealion 7 by 31 December 2024.

The BYD Sealion 7 Premium comes with a rear wheel drive setup and features a 230kW (308hp) motor that can deliver 380Nm of torque. In terms of acceleration, this variant is able to deliver 0-100km/h timing of 6.7 seconds.

As mentioned before, Sealion 7 Performance is available in Malaysia too. This version comes with an all wheel drive setup and features a 390kW (523hp) motor with 690Nm of torque alongside 0-100km/h timing of 4.5 seconds.

In terms of range, the Premium model can deliver an NEDC-rated range of 567km while its Performance counterpart offers an NEDC-rated range of 542km. However, BYD did not reveal the much more accurate WLTP range figures for the Sealion 7.

The same 82.5kWh battery pack powers both variants of the Sealion 7 in Malaysia. This means that they are based on the older 400V e-Platform 3.0 architecture which has a much lower DC charging capability of 150kW.

As a comparison, the version sold in Europe is based on the newer 800V e-Platform 3.0 Evo which has a much faster DC charging speed of 230kW. That being said, the Sealion 7 for the Malaysian market is equipped with an 11kW AC onboard charger – the first BYD model to come with it.
