Pixel 9 series brought ‘highest-ever’ quarterly sales to the lineup

Pixel phones have never been among the best sellers in the industry. You could even say that, for a long time, they remained niche devices. However, relatively recently, Google has been making efforts to turn the situation around. The sales of the Pixel 9 series appear to validate the effectiveness of Google’s measures.

At the end of 2021, Google began to take its position in the smartphone market much more seriously. The company designed a long-term plan to revamp its Google Pixel devices, including a significant redesign and the production of its own custom Tensor chipsets. Google also began to develop more exclusive features for its own Pixel devices, which has led to the recent heavy integration of AI.

Google’s efforts brought more attractive and competitive Pixel devices. Years later, the Pixel 9 series is experiencing the “highest-ever” quarterly sales for the lineup since its arrival on the market. There are still no official figures that offer a bigger picture in this regard. However, we can intuit that sales of Pixel phones are on a sustained growth trend.

In general, the entire smartphone industry has been recovering after a few years of decline. The third quarter of 2024 saw a 2% rebound, which has benefited brands that have done things right, such as Google. That said, the Mountain View giant still has a long way to go to get any of the top spots in the ranking.

For the third quarter of 2024, Samsung led the top smartphone brands with a 19% market share. Apple took second place thanks to its 16% share. In third place is Xiaomi, which reached a 14% market share during the same period. Oppo and Vivo round out the top smartphone brands in Q3 2024 with 14% and 9%, respectively.

Another milestone in the market for Pixel devices

This isn’t the first time Google’s strategy has paid off when it comes to Pixel sales. In 2023, the lineup achieved a significant milestone by shipping 10 million phones for the first time. The Japanese and US markets are especially key for the company. Starting next year, things promise to get even better for Pixel phones. Reports claim that Google will move production of its Tensor chips to TSMC, gaining in power and efficiency.
