New in Android 15, Google is allowing you to screen record a single app. Previously, when you would screen record on your Pixel phone, it would record the entire screen, including any app you went too, and the status bar. Of course, you could crop that out later on.
Now, Google is letting you choose a single app to screen record. This is useful if you don’t want notifications getting into the recording, or jumping into another app by mistake. This is also going to make it easier to help your parents do different things on their Android devices like the Google Pixel 9.
Screen Recording gets even more updates in Android 15 QPR1
However, Google hasn’t made any changes to the Screen Record feature. In the Quarterly Platform Release for Android 15, which is already in beta, there is an additional UI change. In QPR1, it will now show the time you’ve been recording in the notification bar, and you can tap on it to finish.
Previously, you had to pull down the notification shade to stop recording. It’s a pretty minor change, but it does make things a bit easier, mainly if you do a lot of screen recording.
Also new in Android 15 QPR1 is the fact that screen recordings from third-party apps will stop when the phone is locked. Back on Android 14, it would continue recording and quite often capture the screen after the device has been locked. So this is a good security move by Google for Android 15.
We should see these new features before the year’s end, as we expect the first quarterly platform release to come out around December. There are also a few other changes coming in Android 15 QPR1, like the ability to limit your charging to 80% every day versus charging up to 100% every time you charge your phone.
