ADGP M Chandra Sekhar, who heads the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing illegal mining cases, has appeared in the sixth round of the police probe against Union Minister H D Coomaraswamy and his son Nikhil Coomaraswamy for allegedly threatening to arrest him in the probe against the former. -CM, reported or PTI.

Second, PTI is investigating Kumaraswamy over allegations that he illegally approved a 550-acre mining lease to Sri Sai Venkateswara Minerals (SSVM) in Bellary district in violation of the law during his tenure as Karnataka CM from 2006 to 2008.

He currently holds the position of Minister of Labor and Heavy Industry.

“To the SIT, after preparing the investigation report and finding evidence and material material for the prosecution of the accused (Coumaraswamy), it is submitted to His Excellency the Governor of Karnataka with a request to impose punishment on the accused Sheikh H.D. Coomaraswamy on 11/21/2023,” Sekhar said in his complaint filed at the SIT. Sanjay Nagar Police, which was cited by PTI.

He stated that after analyzing the report, Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot sought some clarifications in a letter dated July 29, 2024.

This letter along with other documents were received by SIT 11 days later on the eve of August 8. The requested clarifications have been sent. The clarification was sent on August 19, but the governor returned the file on August 29 with a request for translation from Kannada to English, and it was reported to the ADGP or PTI.

“The SIT is just one step away from bringing the accused Kumaraswamy to book,” Sekhar said.

He added that Kumaraswamy, who is currently out on bail, led a series of press attacks on September 28 and “made false and malicious allegations and threats against me”.

Sekhar claimed that this action was aimed at dissuading him and the SIT from continuing the investigation against Kumaraswamy.

“The accused, with a pre-prepared plan to make impossible the investigation conducted by the special court against him, verbally attacked me and tried to shift my team to another state,” he said.

“I am clearly saying that the accused is intimidating and threatening me so that I will be transferred from Karnataka and is also causing problems to my family members. O Arguedo, with your behaviour, you are threatening me and my family with insult, and you refrain and prevent me from proceeding with the accusation of Arguedo. This alleged crime is punishable under Section 224 BNS 2023,” he told the ADGP in his complaint reported to PTI.
