More Information

Microphones are one of the basics in a studio – here are two that are particularly good for recording instruments.

Sontronics’ Halo has an unusual retro look and was designed specifically for miking guitar amps – but the Halo is a real all-rounder and can also be used for other tasks (such as vocals). Now is a good time to check it out, as Thomann* is offering it for just 164 Euros (instead of 189 Euros).

The Sennheiser E 906 is also designed for instruments such as electric guitars, snare drums and brass instruments and is a practical alternative to the SM57. The “flat man” offers a three-position switch for sound adjustment, and the supercardioid polar pattern focuses precisely on the sound source. The E 906 is supplied with a microphone holder and carrying case – and is currently available for just 145 euros (instead of 175 euros). Available here at Thomann*.

The UT FET47 from United Studio Technologies is based on a classic microphone – the Neumann U47. It uses a custom-built Cinemag transformer and the HZ Series capsule developed by Eric Heiserman. It also features vintage polystyrene capacitors and NOS (New Old Stock) FETs. Extras such as a switchable high-pass filter and -10dB pad are also included. If you are looking for an affordable alternative to the U47, the UT FET47 is definitely worth a look. As for the price: It has been reduced from 999 Euros to 899 Euros, so you save 100 Euros here at Thomann*.

Another classic in a modern reproduction is the UT Twin87, also from United Studio Technologies. For a short time, this condenser microphone is available for 512 Euros instead of 545 Euros – here at Thomann*.

Save on audio interfaces from Universal Audio and Tascam

More Information

An audio interface is at least as essential as a microphone – in fact, no modern studio can do without one. The choice is huge, as you can see from the two models available in the Recording Deals.

The Universal Audio Apollo x8 is a real killer. The audio interface is Thunderbolt 3 compliant and offers a total of 16 inputs and 22 outputs in addition to the digital connections. With six internal Sharc processors, the Apollo x8 can also use a wide range of UAD plug-ins during recording. The Universal Audio Apollo x8 is currently on sale and well worth a look. Instead of €2999, you can now get it for just €2799 here at Thomann*.

The Tascam Series 208i might be a good choice for smaller requirements. This desktop USB interface has four analogue inputs and eight analogue outputs. There are also two ADAT ports for digital connections. The onboard DSP is responsible for mixing, routing and effects. The two headphone sockets and MIDI in and out are also useful. All in all, a very solid USB audio interface that is now available from Thomann* for €309 (instead of €329).

SSL Bus+ and Universal Audio 6176

More Information

If you are looking for something special for your studio, look no further than these two units from SSL and Universal Audio. Neither is cheap, but they will certainly add value to your studio. Definitely something for the discerning professional.

The SSL Bus+ is a compressor with the legendary SSL bus compressor sound. It can be heard on countless hits and is available here in the very latest design. There are four modes of operation for stereo processing, S/C stereo, dual mono and mid-side. The character of the compression can also be switched. Extras such as a 2-band EQ and transient expander are also included. And the Mix controller makes parallel compression easy. Instead of 2099 Euros, you now pay 1949 Euros for a few days at Thomann*.

You’ll save almost €1000 on this gem: the aptly named Universal Audio 6176 channel strip combines the 610B tube microphone preamp with the legendary 1176LN compressor in a single unit. Of course, this is all top-of-the-range stuff, so it doesn’t come cheap. But now you pay ‘only’ 3499 Euros instead of 4444 Euros! You can get it here at Thomann*.
