This PRS DGT Semi-Hollow Limited Edition, which has just been announced, offers a new take on the David Grissom signature model.
PRS DGT Semi-Hollow
David Grissom’s signature guitar has inspired a new, limited-edition version of the beloved PRS DGT. This semi-hollow model offers a new tonal option, combining the classic DGT design with what PRS describes as increased resonance and a warmer top end.
Its semi-hollow construction should provide a more open, resonant tone than the solid-body DGT. Grissom’s original signature model is based on the McCarty and adds a PRS trem, his signature DGT pickups with a coil split for added single-coil tones, and his signature neck carve.
Artist Grade
This limited edition run of 200 guitars shares those exact specifications and adds an Artist Grade figured maple top with a single f-hole.
Its high-gloss nitrocellulose finish shows off that top nicely.
Construction
The basic construction remains the same: a mahogany back and neck, a mahogany one-piece neck, and a rosewood fretboard with PRS Bird inlays. The nickel hardware includes a set of PRS Phase III, locking tuners with faux/bone buttons and the Gen III PRS Patented Tremolo.
Paul Reed Smith also signs each guitar and a PRS hard case.
Verdict
If you like the standard DGT but want something a little different, you finally have an option for a new tonal variation of the classic formula.
I’ve owned the standard DGT, and they are excellent guitars with some odd features, predominantly the control layout, which is essentially backwards, as Grissom prefers. I am guessing these new limited edition models will be popular with anyone who has played his standard solid body model.
