MediaTek is planning to launch its most ambitious Dimensity 9400 SoC at some point in October. The chipset maker’s latest flagship processor will compete against the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. Ahead of the launch the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC has outperformed Apple’s A18 Pro in a GPU benchmark.
MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 SoC beats Apple’s A18 Pro in a GPU benchmark test
The reliable gadget tipster Digital Chat Station has posted results from the GFX Aztec 1440p off-screen Vulkan benchmark for the Dimensity 9400. The chipset has managed to achieve 134fps in this test. This is an improvement of 86% over Apple’s A18 Pro’s 72fps. Notably, the source also mentioned that the previous-gen Dimensity 9300 SoC’s GPU was already highly competitive. However, the Dimensity 9400 chip will take things to a whole new level.
Apart from Apple, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC has managed to outperform Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset in the GPU test. The Snapdragon SoC managed to churn 95fps in that test.
For the uninitiated, the Aztec test is part of the GFXBench suite. It is designed to simulate a hardware 3D game-like environment while pushing the graphics to the max levels. The “1440p” part of the test means that it has been conducted on the QHD resolution setting, a high level of detail. However, the results are for the “off-screen” test. It means that the SoC has been tested for the raw power, without being affected by the resolution.
The Dimensity 9400 SoC will flaunt ARM’s Immortalis-G925 graphics processing unit
The GFX Aztec benchmark test suggests that the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 will utilize ARM’s Immortalis-G925 graphics processing unit. ARM claims it to be “the highest performing, most efficient GPU to date”. Compared to the previous generation Immortalis-G720, the G925 offers 37% higher graphics application performance.
Furthermore, the Immortalis-G925 offers a 52% improvement in ray tracing for complex objects. In addition, there’s a 34% boost in AI and machine learning workload performance. Also, it is capable of delivering a 30% reduction in power consumption.
So, it looks like the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC is shaping up to be quite a powerful chipset. We’ll find out more next month when the tech giant officially introduces the new flagship chipset.
