The new V2.0 Firmware Update is available for the TASCAM Portacapture X6 and X8 handheld recorders, introducing the POCKETSTUDIO app.
The POCKETSTUDIO app gives you easy access to a range of useful features including punch recording, overdubbing, and a bounce feature that sends all recorded tracks to a free channel.
The app’s interface is intuitive, and you also have real-time access to the built-in tuner and metronome while tracking. In addition, there is a real-time mixdown function within the app. This allows you to make adjustments during the mixdown process.

The latest addition to the Portacapture range is the Tascam Portacapture X6 96-kHz/32-bit floating-point recorder. With its intuitive interface, you can easily use it for multiple audio applications, including field recording, speech, music, and more.
Apart from recording up to 6 channels of audio to an SD card, you can also use the X6 as an audio interface and still capture with its built-in mics. These can also shift easily between XY and AB configurations making them even more versatile.
Using the Tascam Portacapture X6
The touchscreen interface allows you to quickly navigate between the six recording modes including, manual, voice, podcast, music, field, and ASMR. Once selected, each of these presets opens up a set of features best suited for its respective application.
In addition, the screen interface also lets you access administrative features such as the file browser, SD card manager, and general settings tab.
As an audio interface, the X6 is powered via USB or the optional PS-P520U power supply. However, when you go mobile you can get over 8 hours of recording time from the 4 x AA batteries.
Furthermore, when using the X6 as a standalone recording device, you can record up to 6 channels of audio. This includes the built-in condenser mics, the 2 additional phantom-powered XLR mic inputs, and a stereo mix.
Recording formats include WAV (BWF) at up to 32-bit float / 96kHz and MP3 at up to 320kbps. Meanwhile, the X6 is compatible with microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards.
Some additional useful features include an MS decoder, reverb (6 room presets), pre/auto/dual record modes, clapper, XRI, and an integrated mixer with EQ, compressor, limiter, low-cut filter, auto leveling, and noise gate.
