The new Jomox Mod FM D is the stand-alone desktop version of the 8-voice FM synthesizer previously only available in Eurorack format.
Jomox Mod FM D
Jomox first unveiled the Mod FM Eurorack module back in 2021 at Superbooth. It was finally released about a year ago. The obvious move was to stick the module into a stand-alone case and turn it into a desktop synth. And that’s precisely what Jomox has now done.
Technically, the new Jomox Mod FM D is almost identical to the Eurorack version. It’s an 8-voice FM synth with four operators, each of which can be modulated by the three others. This is controlled via an intuitive 4×4 knob matrix. In addition to this, the Mod FM D offers 26 algorithms inspired by the Yamaha DX9, which are effectively matrix presets.
Furthermore, the synth has two analog filters (24 dB lowpass / 12 dB multimode) and an analog VCA per voice. A digital reverb and two stereo delays are the icing on the cake.
Despite the desktop format, the Jomox Mod FM D offers a plethora of CV/gate inputs for external modulation. In addition to CV/gate per voice, there are CV inputs for each operator, as well as inputs for external frequency modulation. Each voice also has an individual audio output. While the synth no longer lives exclusively in Eurorack, it still has everything you need to connect it to your modular system. Alternatively, the synth can be controlled via MIDI or USB-C.
