The 76th annual Emmy Awards rebounded from last year's record audience, with a double-digit percentage increase.
The second Emmy of 2024 drew 6.87 million viewers for the 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. (US time) premiere on ABC, according to Nielsen figures from last year and same day. Isso represents a 54% increase compared to the year 75th Annual Awards CeremonyWhich reached 4.46 million viewers, and is scheduled to be shown in January 2024 on Fox.
Not only did Sunday’s show pull in a bigger audience than the Emmys seen three years ago, the show drew 7.8 million viewers during its September 2021 broadcast on CBS, boosted by the NFL’s lead-in. The 76th annual show not only surpassed January’s record audience, but Sunday’s audience also surpassed the previous record of 5.9 million viewers for the 2022 show.
The 76th Emmy Awards also saw an 8% increase in viewership compared to its previous showing on ABC in September 2020, when the biggest night on television drew an audience of 6.39 million.
Remarkably, Emmy's audience on Sunday outpaced the 57th season premiere of “60 Minutes,” which drew 10.2 million viewers, making it the most-watched non-sports program of the evening, according to early audience figures.
Despite the NFL's outreach in local markets, which only account for one of ABC's television stations, the Emmys accounted for a total of 2.56 million viewers, a 68% increase over the 75th Fox Emmy.
Hopefully, we'll win Sunday's ceremony with “The Bear” and “Shogūn” in their respective categories, and since both FX series made their appearances at the awards show, there were a few unexpected moments of appreciation for “Hacks” and “The Morning Show.” According to the .com news, “The Morning Show” star Billy Crudup won for Outstanding Contributor to a Drama Series, while “Hacks” took home the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series.
