Sony’s PS5 Pro design is one of the aspects of the console that fans are eager to learn more about, outside of official specifications and potentially new features. Sony has yet to officially announce the PS5 Pro but numerous leaks over the past several months have signified that it’s likely on the way. Now, it appears we may have our first look at what the design will be. A recent report suggests that Sony’s upcoming pro model PS5 console will look similar to the base model.
Not the original base model, however. Sony launched a refreshed of the PS5 that came with a slightly updated design referred to by many as the PS5 Slim. It incorporates a removable disc drive which is one of the defining factors that separates it from the original model. The PS5 Pro, it seems, will look pretty similar to this version of the console. Albeit with a couple of minor changes.
Sony’s PS5 Pro design differs only slightly from the Slim model
For the most part, the design of the PS5 Pro is not much different from that of the PS5 Slim. It has the same slender aesthetic with dual USB-C ports on the front. As well as a split between the top and bottom halves of the console covers on each side. The main difference is the area of the split. On the PS5 Slim, there’s a single black line that splits the top and bottom halves. On the PS5 Pro, it looks as if there are three black lines.
This information comes from Billbil-kun over at Dealabs. You can see a representation of this design in the image below. According to Billbil-kun, Dealabs was able to see the final packaging of the PS5 Pro, which had the design of the upcoming console on it. However, Dealabs says that for copyright reasons, it can’t show the actual image of the packaging. So it created the sketch instead based on that packaging.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t official from Sony. So things could always change. Having said that, Billbil-kun has been right about plenty of these types of leaks before. So there’s a good chance that this design is accurate. Another thing to take into consideration is the design differences between the PS4 and PS4 Pro. There weren’t many differences at all. The design was mostly the same there too. The main difference was that the PS4 had two larger flat pieces connected together with a recessed section for the ports in between them.
The PS4 Pro had three of these larger flat pieces stacked on top of each other instead of two. Sony also rounded out the corners. Overall, however, the design was pretty similar. So it makes sense that Sony would keep things similar here as well.
The PS5 Pro may be compatible with the Slim console covers
Sony’s console covers were a popular accessory for the original console as well as the PS5 Slim. While there haven’t been nearly as many limited edition variants of the PS5 as there have of the PS4 and PS4 Pro, the console covers gave users a way to customize the look of their PS5 by way of different colors and designs. It seems that the PS5 Pro may be compatible with the PS5 Slim console covers being that the design is so similar. Again, this isn’t confirmed, but speculation on Dealbs’ part.
However, the designs don’t look different enough to where they wouldn’t be compatible. So here’s hoping they are for the sake of those who own a Slim and want to upgrade.
The PS5 Pro may get an official reveal in September
There’s no definitive date on this detail either, but it’s presumed that Sony may announce the PS5 Pro in the first half of September. If that’s accurate, then there’s just a couple of more weeks until official details pour in. And with an announcement next month, it’s likely that the console would go on sale within a couple of months. The PS5 Pro was already rumored to be releasing this holiday season. So it appears that may still be the case.
