Many people attended the Diversity Festival in the German city of Solingen, on the night of the sixth exhibition.
Three people were killed and several others injured, the Solinger Tageblatt newspaper quoted sources as saying.
Second-hand witnesses said the assailant randomly attacked people at a festival commemorating the city's 650th anniversary.
Bild newspaper reported that police announced a manhunt for him on suspicion of escaping from the building.
According to Bild, as testemunhas decreveram the offender as “A man with an Arab appearance.”
“We are all in shock.” Tim Kurzbach, Mayor of Solingen, said: “We wanted to celebrate together the memory of our city and how we should mourn the dead and wounded.”

Solingen, a city of about 160,000 people, is located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, western Germany, not far from the major cities of Düsseldorf and Cologne.
