If it wasn’t already clear, a fresh leak has confirmed that the Galaxy Watch FE is a rebadged Galaxy Watch 4. A noted tipster shared renders and specifications of the first-ever Fan Edition (FE) Samsung smartwatch, and it’s a ditto copy of the 2021 flagship model. The company hasn’t changed the design or the specs. The new FE watch will debut in July with the latest version of the Wear OS-based One UI Watch.
Galaxy Watch FE leak reveals its design & specs
Leaks and rumors about the Galaxy Watch FE have been around for a long time now. From the beginning, it was said to be a rebadged Galaxy Watch 4, something its model numbers (SM-R861 for the Bluetooth version and SM-R866 for the cellular version) also hint at. Samsung’s 2021 flagship watch has the model numbers SM-R860 and SM-R865—you can see the similarities. The latest substantiates the rumors.
X tipster Sudhansu Ambhore recently posted renders of the Galaxy Watch FE in three colors: Black, Blue, and Pink. The device sports the same design as the Galaxy Watch 4, though Samsung has replaced the straps. The wristbands feature the One-Click connector button that the company introduced with the Galaxy Watch 6 series last year. It makes removing the band more convenient than the older pin mechanism.
Samsung has also added some colorful bits to the wristbands near their connector. However, the watch itself sees no change in design. The specs remain unchanged too, including the processor. The Galaxy Watch FE runs the same Exynos W920 chipset as the Galaxy Watch 4. It is a 5nm SoC with a dual-core Cortex-A55 CPU operating at a 1.18GHz frequency. The Galaxy Watch 5 is powered by the same chipset.
As for the rest of the specs, the Galaxy Watch FE will be available in a 40mm size with a 1.2-inch Super AMOLED circular display featuring a 396×396 pixels resolution. It boasts 1.5GB RAM and 16GB storage. A 247mAh battery fuels the device, rated to last 30 hours on a single charge. It supports wireless charging and comes equipped with a microphone and loudspeaker for hands-free calling.
The device runs One UI 5 Watch out of the box
The Galaxy Watch FE has an aluminum body with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance (up to 50m). The device also boasts 5ATM and MIL-STD-810H ratings for durability. Other notable specs include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, and built-in GPS. The device also features a vibration motor and a wide range of sensors, including an optical heart rate sensor, electrical cardiac sensor, and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis.
Samsung will ship the Galaxy Watch FE with One UI 5 Watch out of the box. It is the latest version of the company’s custom watch platform based on Wear OS. It will introduce the next big update (One UI 6 Watch) with the Galaxy Watch 7 series, which should debut on the same day as the FE watch. Or maybe Samsung will launch the Galaxy Watch FE a few days earlier to avoid the conflict. We will let you know when we have more information.
