Samsung has launched the Galaxy F55, a rebranded Galaxy M55 with a vegan leather back. Yes, that is the only difference between the two devices. Everything else remains the same, including the specs and design. The new premium mid-range phone will go on sale today.

Galaxy F55 is for those who like a vegan leather finish

The Galaxy F55 is a phone Samsung made for people who like a vegan leather finish. The company offers the phone in two color variants, named Apricot Crush and Raisin Black. Both feature a stitched design that runs vertically on the left and right sides of the rear panel. The former uses a matching thread color, while the latter has a blue shade. Everything else is a copy of the Galaxy M55 launched in March.

We are talking about a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120HZ refresh rate, 1,000 nits of HBM brightness, and a Full HD+ (1080 x 2400 pixels) resolution. The display boasts Vision Booster technology for enhanced visibility under sunlight. The Galaxy F55 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, a 4nm chip with a peak speed of 2.4GHz. It is paired with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

For photography, Samsung offers a 50MP camera on the front and back. Both can record 4K videos at 30fps (frames per second), while the rear camera also boasts PDAF (phase-detection autofocus) and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). You will also find an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro shooter on the back. We do not expect excellent photos from these two cameras, though.

The Galaxy F55 gives you stereo speakers, so content consumption or gaming without headphones wouldn’t feel bland, at least not audio-wise. Other highlights include an under-display fingerprint scanner, Wi-Fi 6, NFC, USB Type-C 2.0, a 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging, and Android 14 with Samsung’s Knox Security. The device will get four major Android updates and five years of security patches.

Price & availability

Considering the similarities between the Galaxy F55 and Galaxy M55, we expected Samsung to charge the same amount for both phones and the company has done precisely that. Pricing one cheaper would cannibalize the other’s sales. It would be hard to justify a higher price tag for just a vegan leather back panel.

As of this writing, Samsung has only announced the Galaxy F55’s price and availability details for India. The phone will cost ₹26,999 (approx. $325) for the 8GB+128GB model, ₹29,999 (approx. $361) for the 8GB+256GB model, and ₹32,999 (approx. $397) for the 12GB+256GB model. Sales begin in India today. The device is unlikely to arrive in the US but Samsung may sell it in a few other countries.
