Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra renders reveal its squarish design

Samsung is preparing to launch its first Ultra smartwatch in a few months. The long-rumored Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra should debut in July. Earlier leaks said that it would not look like existing Galaxy watches. Instead of a circular design, the new watch is rumored to sport a squarish build. Those leaks were true, but not completely. The first set of leaked Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra renders reveal the display is still circular, though Samsung has redesigned the body.

The Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra has a Gear Sport-like squarish design

Reputed tipster OnLeaks, who has provided us with the first looks at many unannounced smartphones and watches in the past, teamed up with Smartprix to bring high-quality renders of the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra. They presented multiple renders showing the device from various angles, revealing finer design elements. This is the first instance of us seeing the upcoming Samsung watch, and we can immediately draw design similarities with the Gear Sport.

Launched in 2017, the Gear Sport was the last Gear-branded Samsung watch before the company moved its watches under the Galaxy umbrella. It had a squarish dial but a circular display. The Korean firm’s subsequent watches have featured a circular dial. However, it is returning to the squarish design with the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra. Like the Gear Sport, the upcoming watch’s dial has rounded corners but the edges are straighter, giving it a squaring finish.

Some of you may also find the new watch identical to traditional Panerai watches in terms of design. Some finer design elements set it apart, though. Most notably, the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra has three physical buttons on the right side. One of those is a circular button akin to the Digital Crown on the Apple Watch used to navigate through the menus. However, Samsung watches already have a rotating bezel for that. This makes us wonder what it is for.

Rumors say Samsung’s first Ultra watch will be a premium offering with a wide range of health and non-health features, including some on-device AI capabilities. Maybe these additions necessitate a third physical button on the device. We will have to wait for more credible sources to confirm that. In the meantime, let’s dive deeper into these leaked renders and get on with what else we know about the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra.

The watch may feature louder speakers and better microphones

The Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra may boast louder speakers. The speaker grille on the left side of the watch is substantially larger than that on the existing models. Samsung may also offer better microphones for an enhanced calling experience. Flipping the watch reveals an array of health sensors positioned in a slightly different setup than before. It retains the temperature sensor Samsung introduced on the Galaxy Watch 5 series a couple of years ago.

The new report reveals that the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra will feature a 1.5-inch display. It has a dimension of 47 x 47.4 x 16.4 mm, making it substantially bulkier than the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. This is likely because of its massive 590mAh battery. Samsung is expected to launch the watch alongside the standard Galaxy Watch 7 models at its next Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10. More leaks may surface in the build-up to the highly anticipated event in Paris, France.
