Last month, a fake Geekbench listing for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 confused a few people as it showed the device running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the chipset that powered the Galaxy Z Flip 5 last year. A genuine benchmark entry for the new Flip has now confirmed that the new Samsung foldable will get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It popped up with 12GB of RAM and performed as well as its Fold sibling, the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 was spotted on Geekbench with 12GB RAM

The US carrier-locked variant of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 (model number SM-F741U) recently surfaced on Geekbench. The device features a Qualcomm processor with an octa-core CPU in a 1+3+2+2 configuration. The single prime core is clocked at 3.40GHz, while the three mid-cores operate at 3.15GHz. The other two mid-cores have a peak frequency of 2.96GHz. Finally, the chip has two base cores with a frequency of 2.27GHz.

These specs are enough to reveal that it is Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. More precisely, it is the “For Galaxy” version exclusively available to Samsung. It has a higher peak frequency than the standard version (3.30GHz). The Korean firm used the same chip in its Galaxy S24 series. The Galaxy Z Fold 6, which should debut alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 6 in July, also gets this chipset.

Speaking of which, the two foldables performed similarly on Geekbench v6.3. The Fold model scored 2,244 in single-core CPU tests and 6,876 in multi-core tests. The Flip model’s scores were 2,229 and 6,860, respectively. Note that devices don’t always score the same in these benchmark runs. The scores fluctuate with each run. These are the highest scores recorded yet. Further software optimizations could help Samsung achieve better scores.

This Geekbench entry also confirms a RAM upgrade for the Galaxy Z Flip 6. The new clamshell foldable will have a 12GB RAM variant, at least in the US (though we expect it to be available globally). Last year’s model comes with 8GB RAM as standard. There is no other option. This upgrade might please power users, though the rumored camera upgrade might be of more interest to most prospective buyers.

The new Flip is getting a 50MP primary camera

A recent leak revealed that Samsung will equip the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with a 50MP primary rear camera. This rumor first surfaced in August 2023, so it might be final. That would mean a massive camera hardware upgrade from a 12MP sensor on the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The new Flip may also get a thicker UTG (Ultra-thin Glass) panel to reduce the display crease and make it harder. Samsung is rumored to unveil its latest foldables on July 10.
