The Type Directors Club, the world’s leading typography organisation, has opened the call for applications for its various global student scholarship programs.
TDC will award the $5,000 scholarship to an outstanding BIPOC student globally in their junior year of college or first year of graduate or postgraduate school who demonstrates exceptional talent and promise in the design or use of letterforms. Deadline for entry is April 29, 2024.
Beatrice Warde Scholarship, also sponsored by Monotype, is named after the journalist, typographical scholar, and communicator on typography who was the first female member of the TDC. She enthusiastically believed in the merits of education and championed them throughout her professional career with Monotype.
The $5,000 scholarship recognizes a woman college student globally in their junior year of undergraduate study whose work demonstrates exceptional talent, sophistication, and aptitude for typography, lettering, type design, and/or design criticism. Deadline for entry is April 29, 2024.
TDC Scholarship Program is open to juniors worldwide going into their senior (in the penultimate year of their undergraduate degree) year of college who demonstrate exceptional talent, sophistication, and skill in typography. Six $1,000 and four $500 scholarships are available, the deadline for entry is April 30, 2024.
In addition to the financial awards, the winners of each scholarship receive a one-year TDC student membership, which includes a copy of The World’s Best Typography, Typography 45, and complimentary admission for all TDC events.

Winners for all scholarships will be announced on August 14, 2024 at the TDC Ascenders 2024 awards ceremony in New York. The Ascenders competition, celebrating typographers, letterers, and type designers worldwide aged 35 and under, is now open for entries, with fees increasing after the early-bird deadline of March 13, 2024. Final deadline April 19, 2024.
