The season’s finale episode gave a tribute to Melanie Olmstead in the credits of the show part. The tribute generated curiosity among the viewers about the unknown personality as Melanie Olmstead is not part of the main cast in the series. Melanie Olmstead was the location and transportation manager for the Yellowstone series. She passed away on May 25, 2019, just before the release of Yellowstone Season 2. She was part of the Yellowstone because she knew the suitable filming locations and her love for the animals. She was a valuable member of the Yellowstone production team due to her background and awareness of ranching and conservation.

Early Life Of Melanie Olmstead

Melanie Olmstead was born in 1968 and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was raised by her adoptive parents Janet Corbridge and Reid Howard. She developed her love and care for animals when she was a child, she especially adored horses.  

Melanie used the knowledge that she gathered at an early stage from her hometown in Utah for her job and role-assigned in Yellowstone. Since Utah was used for much of the filming of Yellowstone’s first three seasons, Olmstead was a perfect choice for the position of site manager and transportation for the series. Olmstead liked to spend time with her friends and horses when she wasn’t working.

Tragic Demise of Melanie Olmstead

 When Melanie Olmstead passed away she was just 50 years old. No such official cause of death is known or publicly announced yet. Some news sources reportedly claimed that the cause of her death was complications due to cancer.

Olmstead was a dedicated mom of three and wife, and everyone who knew her would miss her terribly. She was a close friend to many and had a significant impact on many lives. Fans assumed from Olmstead’s title card that she had likely died recently even though they had no idea who she was. Many people then used social media to send their sympathies to her family and workplace.

Olmstead’s life and accomplishments were celebrated on July 30, 2019, with a horseback ride attended by her family and friends. They celebrated her life with a BBQ memorial. In Yellowstone, Melanie Olmstead did not have a part. Though we never really see her on film, she was mentioned as a character in Season 2. The creator of the Yellowstone series Taylor Sheridan included Olmstead as a missing character in the program as a way to honor her life and contributions.

Kayce Dutton is attempting to learn more about the fate of Melanie Olmstead in the episode bearing her name. Kayce saw the woman’s lover Jamie Munson slain earlier in the episode; he was killed by individuals defending their property. Kayce makes an unsuccessful effort to find out as much as he can about the incidents.

It does not matter whether the hardworking woman was never seen on screen, Melanie Olmstead put forth a lot of effort to make sure everything was operating well behind the scenes even if she didn’t make an appearance on the show. She was an appropriate site manager for the program that was largely filmed in Utah because she had lived there her entire life. However, Sheridan’s name will live on in the Yellowstone universe forever because of her kind deed.

Her Love For Animals

Melanie developed a love for the animals in her hometown in Utah since her childhood. She owned her first horse when she became an adult. She has been riding her favorite horse, Mahogany, since her time in college. They shared many joyous moments together until Mahogany’s death at the age of forty, which is around 110 years old for humans.

Although not appearing on the show, Melanie Olmstead worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything went well. As a native of Utah, she was the perfect location manager for the segments of the show that were filmed there. Her amazing contribution to Hollywood will never be forgotten, doing such an amazing work behind the scenes is often left unseen by people but Melanie deserved a true recognition. 

Melanie was an important member of the Salt Lake City and Yellowstone production communities. The beautiful soul was a loving wife and a dedicated mother of three children apart from her professional background. The loss of such an angelic and hardworking soul will be felt and missed by every individual who knew her.
