In 2024, how do you differentiate your phone from the many, many others on the market? For most smartphone makers, it comes down to the camera. We’ve seen some pretty incredible cameras coming out of Chinese smartphone makers like OPPO and Vivo lately. But realme went in another direction with the 14 Pro series.
The realme 14 Pro Series sports the world’s first cold-sensitive color-changing back. This phone was co-designed by realme and Valeur Designers, which is a renowned Nordic industrial design studio. And that explains why realme decided to announce the realme 14 Pro series here in Copenhagen.
realme partnered with Valeur Designers studio for the 14 Pro series in an effort to redefine premium and trendy designs for smartphones. This studio is led by designer Torsten Valeur, who has already had a 29-year partnership with the iconic brand Bang & Olufsen.
This phone sports a distinctive pearl texture, which is an innovative temperature-responsive color-changing technique, along with a seamless quad-curved display and the industry’s first inaugural triple flash camera system. This quad-curved display is nearly bezel-less, achieving an unbelievable 93.8% screen-to-body ratio. That makes it the most seamless display on a realme device to date.
How does this new technology work?
Now the big question is, how does this new technology work? Well, according to realme, it employs advanced thermochromic pigments that react to temperature changes. So when the temperature drops below 16°C (or 60°F), the phone’s back cover then transitions from pearl white to a vibrant blue, and reversing once the temperature rises again. That means in the winter, or even the fall, you could have a white phone indoors, and a blue phone outdoors.
This transformation mimics the deep-sea color-changing creatures like jellyfish and mollusls. It captures the oceans profound and enigmatic essence. The color-shifting back panel give users an unexpected delight, every single day.
That’s not all that makes the realme 14 Pro Series unique, however. No two realme 14 Pro Series devices will have the same pattern. Much like how no two sea shells have the same pattern. Meaning that everyone will have a unique looking realme 14 Pro Series smartphone. This effect is achieved through a special fusion fiber involving over 30 steps of craftsmanship, that ensures that each back cover has its own exclusive pattern. Additionally, this fusion fiber is composed of 95% eco-friendly, biobased materials, which makes it biodegradable, renewable and energy-efficient.
realme is also adding IP66, IP68 and IP69 ratings to the 14 Pro series, which is a popular trend going into 2025. With the addition of IP69, you are able to use hotter water, and water jets – basically meaning you can put your phone in a dishwasher or washing machine.
Finally, the realme 14 Pro+ features its inaugural ‘Ocean Oculus’ triple-camera and triple-flash system, with polished Deco. It also introduces the industry’s first ‘MagicGlow’ triple flash for nighttime portraits, this is going to help with restoring skin tones in complex lighting conditions. Making for some really impressive night portraits and catering young users, and their diverse social and lifestly needs.
