The OPPO Find X8 edges out the competition with its outstanding camera performance.
2024 has been a great year for smartphones. We’ve seen a ton of compelling devices, and quite a few flagship ones had compelling cameras. We had to choose the very best camera smartphone of 2024, as part of our yearly AH awards picks, and that honor went to the OPPO Find X8 Pro. OPPO managed to do an outstanding job with the camera system on the Find X8 Pro and we were left truly impressed during our time with the device. This phone’s camera capabilities are its main selling point, in our opinion, but the device does have a lot to offer in general.
Blazing fast shutter speed coupled with great camera software and Hasselblad
We were expecting the OPPO Find X8 Pro to have a fast shutter speed, but even with high expectations, we were left impressed. Only when you try using this phone’s camera can you truly appreciate how fast the shutter really is. You won’t miss a beat when using this camera, as a ton of our camera samples have shown. It’s an ideal phone for taking images of kids and animals, for example, when they’re running around playing and whatnot. Those images tend to be blurry, due to fast movements, but the Find X8 Pro handles fast-moving objects without a problem.
A fast shutter doesn’t mean much if the end results are not good enough. Well, you’ll be glad to know that the Find X8 Pro delivers in that regard too. It has four 50-megapixel cameras on the back, and all of them do a great job. Hasselblad tuned the colors on the images, and they’re outstanding. The images end up being vivid and sharp, while the dynamic range is also spot on. The phone can really balance out images and make them look vivid, and yet not oversharpened or oversaturated in any way. The shadows are usually also spot on.
The world’s first global smartphone with two periscope telephoto cameras
The phone includes a wide-angle main camera, an ultrawide unit, and two periscope telephoto cameras. The OPPO Find X7 Ultra also includes two periscope telephoto cameras. That device has never been launched outside of China, though. That makes this handset the world’s first global phone with two periscope telephoto cameras. OPPO didn’t skimp out on quality camera sensors and hardware in general, which shows in the end results. You get access to 3x and 6x optical zooms here, and all cameras do a great job of balancing color profiles to fit with the main snapper.
The OPPO Find X8 Pro is a flagship smartphone all around, not just in the camera department. It’s fueled by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC and includes outstanding battery life. Blazing fast wired and wireless charging is also a part of the package, as is Android 15 with ColorOS 15. A gorgeous 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display is also included.
