ChargEV discontinues the Yearly Essential Plan, retains Legacy Plan

ChargEV Yearly Essential Plan is now no longer available to customers. Launched back in June, the Charge Point Operator (CPO) has just discontinued the annual subscription plan a few days ago on 31 October.

No successor to the ChargEV Yearly Essential Plan just yet

Priced at RM788 per year, the Yearly Essential Plan provides a 50% discount on all AC and DC chargers under the ChargEV network. Subscribers would also receive RM50 credit per month which makes it one of the most value-for-money EV charging subscription plans out there.

Let’s use a BYD Dolphin Extended Range with a 60.4kWh battery as an example and you want to top-up its battery from 10% to 80%. This would require around 42.28 kWh of energy from a ChargEV DC charger.

If the normal charging fee for the said ChargEV DC charger is RM1.60 per kWh, it would cost you RM67.65 to charge the Dolphin from 10% to 80%. If you subscribed to the Yearly Essential Plan, the fee would be RM33.83 instead.

Hence, the annual plan can help you save tremendously on charging fees. This is especially true for those who didn’t install a home charger at their premise and rely on ChargEV’s public EV chargers.

Based on our WhatsApp conversation with ChargEV’s customer service earliet this year, the CPO has yet to come out with a new offering to replace the Yearly Essential Plan though.

ChargEV Legacy Plan is somehow still alive and kicking

When the Yearly Essential Plan was launched back in June, ChargEV said that the annual plan was supposed to replace the original ChargEV yearly plan which has since been called the Legacy Plan.

According to the ChargEV’s FAQ, the Legacy Plan was supposed to be phased out on 31 May this year. However, the Legacy Plan continues to be available to this day which is quite ironic since the plan that was supposed to be its replacement has since met its demise.

Unlike the Yearly Essential Plan, the Legacy Plan only provides discounts on ChargEV AC chargers as well as the DC charger at Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur. Priced at RM240 per year, the discount varies from one AC charger to another although subscribers are able to utilise some of them for free.
