Despite this latest promotion to the top, Badenoch's voters were not at all impressed.
“I've been here three and a half years and I didn't know she was an MP, because I'd never seen her,” said Karen Oakley, a local business owner. Express.co.uk.

“I'm surprised she's moved up so far in the hierarchy,” says Daniel Kittredge, owner of local café Gluttons. “I've voted Tory all my life, but there would be huge concern if I joined.”
“It's your favorite, which helps us, and we have, what a big vision,” says Kitteridge.
Saffron Walden is a long-serving Conservative politician, serving as Business Secretary to replace Lord Haslehurst. However, one local resident credits locals with “voting for an ass if that person wears a hat with a blue rose on it.”

Since the start of this week, an upbeat Conservative leader has sparked outrage over her comments on maternity pay, suggesting they have been “too long”.
Ms Badenoch told Times Radio that statutory maternity payments were a “tax function”. “Once we see what works, we pull one group of people and move them to another. Esso, in my opinion, is overrated,” she said.
In response, local fashion company owners Neonleo, Mandy Wich, and Abi North explain how “as a business, we feel that support beyond the business is essential and crucial.”
“We are very satisfied to have a representative, we have not had a commercial event, and we personally feel, as a company, we could use more support,” Mandy said.

However, salon owner Julie Redfern, 62, says her local performer is “amazing”, saying that as residents “we have to realize that she is hired full time, and people should not want her to be there”. “Just sitting in Saffron Walden.”
Julie told Express.co.uk: “It can improve vision, but I don't know what people expect, of her walking the streets every day?
“It's very frustrating, because people, as a woman and a mother, expect a lot from her.”
