Nollywood actress turned activist and politician, Tonto Dikeh, recently took to Instagram to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day and offered some words of encouragement to her countrymen, along with some tips on how we can help Nigeria succeed.
“Happy 64th birthday, Nigeria!
Today we celebrate more than just a nation; We celebrate the resilient spirit of more than 200,000 people whose strength, creativity and hopes will continue to define our day. At 64 years old, we are a proud nation, rooted in diversity, with a future that holds the promise of greatness – and together we will continue to build it.
As we look to the future, let us do so **with renewed hope**, and embrace the vision of a Nigeria that works for everyone – a nation where every city feels seen, heard and empowered. A future of peace, where unity has always been able to shine brighter than ever, transcending our differences and filling the gaps that have divided us for too long.
But waiting just in case this happens is not enough. It is the **joint effort** of every Nigerian – North, South, East and West – that will help us achieve our full potential. Two paths of strength in the streets, rural homes and markets, it is our collective determination, hard work and shared values that will make Nigeria great again. Together, we can rewrite the narrative, and raise our education, healthcare, infrastructure and governance to world-class standards.
The challenges are many, but they are not overlapping. With **peace** as our guide and justice as our guide, we can continue to move forward, strengthening our democracy and ensuring that prosperity is not just for some, but for all. As we celebrate today, let us renew our commitment to building a Nigeria that future generations will proudly inherit.
Happy Independence Day Nigeria. The future is bright and we will rise together.”
