Drake Hogestyn, played by John Black on Days of Our Lives, has died of pancreatic cancer. He is 70 years old.
The actor's family announced his death in a statement posted on Instagram.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Drake Hogestyn,” the statement read. “He suffered the worst moment of his life when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but he faced the challenge with incredible strength and determination.” “After fighting an unworthy battle, he passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. He was the most amazing husband, bae and actor who loved appearing in front of the 'Ayyam' audience and splitting the box with the best cast, crew and production team. We love him and will miss him every day of our lives.”
Hogestyn premiered on the NBC television series in 1986 and appeared in more than 4,200 episodes over two years, appearing sporadically as John Black. Hogestyn was fired from the show in 2008 along with Deidre Hall due to uncoordinated cuts, but returned in 2011.
