When ASM debuted the original 49-key Hydrasynth back in 2019, the world was a very different place. Firstly, the terms ‘COVID’ or ‘Global Pandemic’ were nowhere to be seen. Polyphonic aftertouch was still a distant memory, mentioned only by us older synthesists when opining about synths of yore.

Well, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but it certainly made a massive impact in our little corner of the music-making world. A powerful, digital synthesizer with a brilliant programming paradigm, an amazing sound AND that elusive polyphonic aftertouch.
It is more than fair to say that the Hydrasynth ushered in a new era of expressive synthesizer performance, whether you like the instrument or not. Soon after, they released the desktop version but it was the introduction of the Hydrasynth Deluxe that cemented its reputation. In the age-old tradition of answering the ‘how do we make this synth better’ question, ASM took two Hydrasynth engines, bolted them together and gave them a lovely 73-key polyAT keyboard.
The introduction of the baby in the range, the very cute Hydrasynth Explorer, was another ground-breaker, delivering that famed poly AT in a medium key-size format.
