The RODE Rodecaster Video gives content creators the power of an entire production studio in a compact and intuitive desktop form factor.

With companies like Blackmagic Design dominating the more professional side of video content, it was only a matter of time before others joined in on the fun. RODE is known for practical and innovative solutions in this space, so we can certainly get excited about the new Rodecaster Video:

Equipped with an 8-core CPU for AV processing, the Rodecaster Video allows you to switch between up to six different video feeds with quick access to seven custom scenes.

On the rear panel, you have four 1080p HDMI inputs with an automatic frame rate converter feature. Furthermore, there are two HDMI outputs for monitoring your program, preview, and multiview feeds.

More Information

The two USB-C ports can be used for a range of devices, including RODE USB audio devices, and webcams, as well as external AV sources. In familiar fashion, the Rodecaster Video is equipped with a pair of Revolution mic preamps with XLR combo inputs.

Meanwhile, there is a pair of wireless receivers, compatible with the RODE Series IV wireless mics. As you’ll find in the rest of the Rodecaster series, there is a range of DSP audio processing effects from APHEX.

Besides the standard compression, EQ, high-pass filter, noise gate, and de-esser there are the Aural Excitor, Compellor, and Big Bottom processors. All basic operations can be performed via the main control panel with its touchscreen display and rotary encoder.

The scenes function really allows you to plan your production into segments, with the capability to compose seven different scenes layered with video, graphics, and other media. This is useful for a wide range of content, from podcasts to live streaming.

Overall, this is an exciting development from RODE, as usual, making professional features accessible to a far wider audience. My only reservation is the mention of manufacturer-specific compatibility with RODE devices.
