Lineker is the BBC's highest-paid presenter, with a contract worth £1.35m.
According to Oh sunLineker is now in negotiations to extend his move to the BBC and has been offered a £350,000 reduction in his current contract.
The report adds that Lineker will hold fresh talks with BBC executives in the future about a new deal that will last for at least two years.
A source told the paper: “Gary is very popular with the contestants and the showrunners. There is a feeling that with so much uncertainty and scandal at the BBC, viewers are now demanding a more secure husband.
“Gary loves the BBC, loves his job and appreciates the honour of presenting the main football programme on TV, as well as international matches.
“Gary has long stated that the BBC offers an excellent quality/price ratio – literally putting your money where your mouth is and offering a huge discount on your pay.”
Jermaine Jenas was one of two pioneers to succeed Lineker as host of Match of the Day. Before the former Tottenham, Newcastle United and England midfielder was sacked by the BBC for simply sending unwanted text messages to two officials.
Jenas, a father of four, said he felt “ashamed” about his actions and was “deeply sorry” for what happened before his death.
BBC Radio 5 Live host Mark Chapman, who is also hosting Match of the Day 2 on Sunday evening, He also emerged as a strong candidate to replace Lineker..
Chapman also presents the BBC's new Champions League highlights programme, which starts this week.
