It seems like just yesterday that ASUS launched the ROG Phone 8 series, but there are already some leaked specs popping up for the ROG Phone 9. Now ASUS hasn’t even confirmed the ROG Phone 9 series yet, so the specs that have been leaked should be taken with a grain of salt. As there’s no way of telling whether or not they’re accurate.
The leaked specs are the only details about the ROG Phone 9 that have been shared. Meaning there was nothing mentioned about a possible release date or a possible price point. Having said that, an educated guess could be made about possible announcement timing. At the beginning of this year, ASUS announced the ROG Phone 8 series during CES. The event happened on January 8, and then the phone was launched on March 1 of this year. Just shy of two months from the announcement.
Keeping these dates in mind, ASUS may look to do an announcement around the same time, perhaps earlier. With a launch happening some time in early 2025. This is all speculation, of course. It’s also worth keeping in mind that for the last few generations of ROG Phones, ASUS has announced and launched earlier and earlier each year. So make of that what you will.
Leaked ROG Phone 9 specs suggest the use of Qualcomm’s new flagship chipset
This is hardly going to be a surprise if it turns out to be true for one main reason. ASUS has never used anything but Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon chipset in its flagship ROG Phone devices. Last year the ROG Phone 8 came with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The year before that, the ROG Phone 7 came with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and so on and so forth. This year, a tipster who goes by the name of Wisdom Pikachu on Weibo says the ROG Phone 9 will be coming with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
In addition to the chipset, Wisdom Pikachu also states that the phone will support 65W charging. They also state that the display has been updated or improved. No actual details were given about the display though.
There will be a model with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage
Again, this won’t be a huge surprise to anyone who’s used or is at least familiar with the ROG Phone 8 Pro Edition, which comes with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage. The leak says ASUS will be sticking with this RAM and storage configuration for the ROG Phone 9. This suggests there will once again be a Pro Edition-style model, though not necessarily with the same variant name.
On a slightly unrelated note, ASUS seems to like these amounts for RAM and storage. Having launched both the ROG Phone 8 Pro Edition and the ROG Ally X with exactly these capacities. And when you think about it, it doesn’t even make sense for ASUS to go any higher than that on a mobile device. Having used the ROG Phone 8 Pro Edition for several months this year, I barely scratched the surface in terms of storage. And I never used the maximum amount of RAM for even the most demanding games. It’s nice to have it though.
