Villa Aston They say they are “deeply shocked and saddened” by the death of Gary Shaw.
Former striker Moro, 63, was injured and remains at home.
Shaw starred for Villa in the first two years of 1980, helping the Midlands club to the Portuguese league title in 1981 and the European Cup a year later.
“Aston Villa Football Club is deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Gary Shaw, one of our European Cup-winning heroes,” a statement read.
“Gary was one of us, a gifted striker who dazzled players with his goalscoring prowess that helped Villa achieve success in the 1980s.
Individual praise is also given to a player who was loved by many on the bench.
“He passed away peacefully today, surrounded by his family, who have asked Aston Villa to issue a statement on his behalf.
“Everyone’s thoughts are with Gary’s family and loved ones during this very difficult time. Rest in peace Gary.
