Google launched the Pixel 9 series in August, including a Pro XL model for the first time. The devices feature a new design and build, which changes the pricing scheme for repair parts. iFixit has confirmed that the Pixel 9 series cameras come with a higher price tag, despite the rear cover being significantly less expensive.
The prices for repair parts for the entire Pixel 9 series are now available on iFixit. The listings revealed some surprising changes, including a lower overall price for all parts together on the new models. This is especially helped by the significant price drop on the Pixel 9’s rear cover parts. Google achieved this thanks to a new build and component layout.
iFixit reveals the price of repair parts for the Pixel 9 series
The Pixel 9 Pro’s rear cover costs just $92.99, while the Pixel 8 Pro’s costs $172.99. Much of the price reduction appears to be in the smaller number of components needed to repair the rear panel of Google’s latest flagship phones. Interestingly, the Pixel 9 Pro XL’s rear panel parts cost the same as the smaller Pro’s.
That said, other parts are more expensive in the next-gen models. This includes the Pixel 9 Pro XL’s display, which costs $10 more than the Pixel 8 Pro’s. The battery is also $10 more expensive on the new models, while the front-facing camera goes up to $69.99 ($42.99 on the Pixel 8 Pro). The new design on the Pixel 9 series separates the USB-C port from the motherboard, so it’s now cheaper to repair. The USB-C repair part for the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro cost $42.99 and $49.99, respectively. There’s a similar story when comparing parts prices for the vanilla Pixel 8 and Pixel 9. Again, we have a much cheaper price tag for the latter’s rear cover, which now costs just $59.99. The battery’s price remains the same on both, although the latest model’s display is up to $30 more expensive. The front camera on the Pixel 9 is $17 more expensive than its predecessor. $159.99 is the price of the Pixel 9’s main camera, while its USB-C port costs the same as its biggest sibling ($49.99).
