PS5 owners will be getting a new system software update that adds a handful of new features and improvements, including the Welcome Hub.
The new Welcome Hub screen will be a place where PlayStation gamers can go to personalize and customize their visual experience with widgets for all kinds of things. There’s a widget for system storage and battery life for your connected accessories, for example. There are also widgets for displaying your current online friends. As well as trophies and wishlist access. Sony says this is a “reimagined version of the Explore Tab” which was only available in the US. The Welcome Hub, however, will be available to players globally.
The Welcome Hub PS5 update will roll out globally over the next few weeks
With the Welcome Hub replacing the Explore Tab, all users around the world will be able to enjoy the same experience. Just, not all at the same time. Sony confirms that Welcome Hub will roll out to all users globally over the next few weeks.
The rollout begins with select users in the US today, September 13, and will continue to expand throughout the month. In addition to customizable widgets, the Welcome Hub will also let users change the background. You can select from your in-game screenshots or choose one of the pre-loaded options. It will also be possible to adjust the widget size to fit your personal needs.
Personalized 3D audio and more go global today
Last month Sony began pushing the latest beta software update, and in it was the ability to create a personalized 3D audio profile. This is now a feature that will be rolling out to all users globally, starting today.
Sony’s intention with this feature was to make it so players can experience the 3D audio the way that’s best suited for them. Everyone hears things just a bit differently, so a personalized profile ensures that Sony’s 3D audio tech is working in a way that benefits the individual user.
In addition to this feature, Sony is also starting to roll out the ability to set individual permissions for Remote Play. Now, you’ll be able to select which profiles on the console can access the Remote Play and which ones can’t. Giving you a little more control over who can access content when they’re not sitting in front of the console. Sony is also rolling out an adaptive charging feature for controllers.
With this new feature, users can designate a set amount of time for the console to charge the controller. Sony says it’s based on how much battery life your controller has. Beyond this time, the console would stop supplying the controller power. According to Sony, this is only for the PS5 Slim model, and the PS5 Pro once it launches later this year.
