This seems like the obvious way this resource would work, but Xbox took a more passive approach to dealing with friends in the last generation of consoles. The way the current system works is that anyone can add another Xbox account to their follower list. When two stories happen, they are updated for friends.
This move doesn’t necessarily make a huge difference to the social environment for players. If you’re friends, you’ll stay friends. If you’re not exclusive, we’ll continue to stay in touch. This means you can still check out updates on people, clubs, and games on the Xbox system.
Xbox is also launching new privacy and notification options to help manage the return of friends, so players can decide who they can follow or send friend requests to. The blog post doesn’t provide launch details on when the new friends system will be publicly available, but it will be available starting this week as a preview for Xbox Insiders.
The announcement of the post is the latest in a wave of news about Xbox in the past. The company also offers Plan and For Xbox Series X All-Digital.
