Let's analyze this below, but first: o iPhone 16 eo iPhone 16 ProThere’s a surprising parity in the new resources that devices offer us this year. The iPhone 16 has a power button (on the left edge, above the volume buttons) and a new camera button as well.
Well, it’s more than just a button. Using all sorts of built-in sensors and technologies, you can adjust camera controls and settings — like zoom, exposure, and aperture — with sliders and gentle touches. Apple is already planning to update the definition of press-to-focus and press-to-capture.
Why is Apple redesigning the camera module on the iPhone 16? The cynic in me thought this change, with the vertically stacked lenses, was just a desperate sign to show people that they have a newer iPhone, but there’s a reason. Apparently, this setup means the cameras can work together to capture space-based videos and photos.
The iPhone 16 Pro (e Pro Max) packs a series of upgraded photography resources. There’s (thankfully!) parity between the 6.9-inch Pro Max and the 6.2-inch Pro, plus the smaller Pro gets 5x optical zoom this year. The ultra-wide camera has been upgraded from 12MP to 48MP on both Pro models, and the iPhone 16 Pro can record 4K video at 120fps, so you can switch between slow-motion shots on the fly – without having to record in slow motion.
The iPhone 16 Pro has a bigger battery, which gives us that perennial line: “best iPhone battery life ever.” However, in Apple’s own specs reference book, it’s more specific, saying “best iPhone battery life on a Pro Max.” That’s something to be examined in reviews. But after last year’s move to USB-C, the lighter titanium body and power button aren’t a compelling upgrade.
