Oppo Find X8 confirmed to pack high-density batteries

After much speculation, the launch of the Oppo Find X8 series has been officially confirmed. Zhou Yibao, Product Manager for the OPPO Find Series, announced that the upcoming devices will feature silicon-carbon anode batteries, branded by the company as Glacier Batteries.

For those unfamiliar with the new battery technology, it offers a higher energy density. The particular model Oppo is talking about, reportedly has an energy density of 763Wh/L, a notable improvement over traditional graphite batteries. This advancement allows manufacturers to pack larger battery capacities into a more compact space.

Zhou Yibao revealed that Oppo’s Glacier Battery contains the industry’s highest 6% silicon-carbon content in the negative electrode. A higher silicon content generally translates to increased energy density.

However, there are limits to increasing silicon content, and it’s encouraging to see manufacturers pushing the boundaries to extend battery life without compromising user experience. Oppo has been collaborating with CATL, a leading Chinese battery manufacturer, to develop next-gen battery technology over the next 1-3 years. This partnership could significantly improve the battery performance of future Oppo Find X series devices. Notably, future OnePlus flagships will also use this new battery technology and pack similar battery capacities.

As Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station previously reported, the Oppo Find X8, Oppo Find X8 Pro, and the Oppo Find X8 Ultra will feature a 5,600mAh battery, 5,700mAh battery, and 6,100 or 6,200mAh battery respectively. To put this in perspective, both the previous Find X7 and Find X7 Ultra were equipped with 5,000mAh batteries.

However, this isn’t the first time Oppo’s Glacier Battery will hit the market

OnePlus first introduced this new battery tech with the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro, back in June this year. The energy density of this battery is reportedly 23.1% higher than standard graphite batteries. As a result, the phone manages to pack a massive 6100 mAh battery within its 8.9mm body, which weighs only 207g. Additionally, we’ve seen ultra-thin foldable devices like the Honor Magic V2 and the newly launched Magic V3 benefit from this advanced battery technology.

Speaking of other aspects, the Oppo Find X8 and Find X8 Pro are likely to feature the Dimensity 9400 chipset. However, the Oppo Find X8 Ultra may boast the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC.
