During the ongoing IFA 2024 event, many big brands are launching key products and announcing impressive developments. One of those brands is HONOR, the former subsidiary of Huawei. This time, the company did not present new phones. However, Honor unveiled its AI-powered HONOR MagicBook Art 14 Snapdragon alongside impressive AI developments, including an assistant and on-device deepfake detection.

HONOR MagicBook Art 14 Snapdragon: a big bet on AI

Honor has launched a Snapdragon version of its popular MagicBook Art 14, previously available only with Intel chips. The new model stands out when it comes to AI. The company put special emphasis on this section, adding some cool IA-powered features too. The HONOR MagicBook Art 14 Snapdragon is powered by the Snapdragon X Elite chip. The design remains as elegant and lightweight as ever. The laptop weighs just 1 kg, and its thinness barely reaches 1 cm. The device boasts a 14.6-inch HONOR FullView touchscreen. The display has a crisp 3.1K resolution and a 97% screen-to-body ratio.

Honor uses the power of AI to not only offer new features but also boost the performance of existing apps. The Hotspot Library technology uses platform-level AI to boost the performance of X86 apps on Snapdragon architecture. It is able to improve the average boot time for those particular apps by up to 16%. There is also HONOR MagicRing, a system for interoperability between devices and services. The company says that users can “use the same set of keyboard and mouse for multiple devices, receive calls and notifications on a device other than their smartphones, and control the smartphone’s camera on the PC.”

MagicRing also allows users to access certain apps from different devices. For example, Honor says that you can use Cocreator, a feature of Windows Paint, on an HONOR MagicPad 2 to draw with the Magic Pencil. Similarly, people can use AI Eraser from HONOR Magic V3 on the HONOR MagicBook Art 14 Snapdragon.

HONOR AI Agent: an on-device assistant that opens a world of possibilities

Advanced assistants are among the most prominent representatives of the AI era. Honor does not want to be left behind in this field, so they worked hard on HONOR AI Agent. This assistant is capable of understanding users’ requests and intentions in natural language. It can also learn the user’s habits and device environment to improve its decision-making. For example, it can facilitate the cancellation of unwanted app subscriptions using voice commands. HONOR AI Agent will hit the market with the HONOR Magic7 Series, with it heading to China first before other regions.

A groundbreaking on-device AI deepfake detection technology

Along with copyright, deepfakes are the main concern in the AI era. Big names like Google have been implementing measures against this type of content. Malicious actors could use the technology to steal identity or blackmail, as well as promote disinformation. With that in mind, HONOR developed the “world’s first” on-device AI deepfake detection technology.

The system analyzes several parameters, such as “pixel-level synthetic imperfections, border compositing artifacts, inter-frame continuity, consistency in face-to-ear hairstyle, and the positioning of synthetic traces.” This way, it can identify altered multimedia content and compare it to the original. At this time, there are no details on which devices will receive the tool first. However, it is likely to debut on the HONOR Magic7 Series as well.
