With All-Pro Trent Williams agreeing to a restructured contract and keeping his endurance, the San Francisco 49ers can now focus fully on actually playing football and preparing for their Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets.
Williams is expected to receive a huge amount of guaranteed money in his reworked agreement tied to the 2026 NFL season.
The 36-year-old said he wants to play until he's 40 and wants to win a Super Bowl at a senior level, comparing himself to Los Angeles Rams forward Andrew Whitworth.
“Why not the European Union?” Williams said via NBC Sports Bay Area. “…I just want to keep breaking down barriers.”

Whitworth played 16 seasons in the NFL, his last coming in 2021, when he won the Vince Lombardi Trophy at the age of 40.
Williams is still going strong, having been named to the All-Pro First Team in each of the past three seasons and has reached the Pro Bowl in each of the past 11 seasons since taking the field (he lost all of 2019 after surgery).
He's been an important presence on San Francisco's offensive line and has made life easier for defenders since he began his career with the Washington franchise in 2020.
However, the rest of the Niners' offensive line is a question mark.
Hopefully, rookie Dominic Bonney, a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and the team's presumed starter at right guard, will become a reliable contributor and help provide protection for QB Brock Purdy on a consistent basis.
