Epiphone, in collaboration with Gibson Custom and the Hendrix family, has unveiled the Jimi Hendrix Love Drops Flying V. This stunning guitar is a meticulous recreation of the iconic instrument that Hendrix played extensively during his legendary career.

Jimi Hendrix Love Drops Flying V

The Epiphone Jimi Hendrix Love Drops Flying V is the latest Hendrix-themed release from the Gibson brand. Originally a Sunburst colour, Hendrix customized his Flying V with psychedelic graphics that he painted himself. The “Love Drops” Flying V faithfully replicates these unique designs, capturing the spirit of Hendrix’s artistic vision.

Psychedelic Tone

The guitar features a mahogany body, a rounded C profile one-piece mahogany neck, and a laurel fretboard with medium jumbo frets.

It has a pair of Gibson Custombucker pickups wired with the standard tone controls (one for each pickup) and a master volume. The electronics include CTS potentiometers, a Mallory tone capacitor, and a Switchcraft 3-way pickup select switch.

The hardware is all nickel-finished and includes a set of Epiphone Deluxe tuners and a short Maestro Vibrola tailpiece.

Left or Right

It is released in both left-handed and right-handed versions on launch. They also include an Epiphone hardshell case in the price with this model.

Verdict

This latest Hendrix-themed guitar will appeal to fans and collectors, but you will pay a premium for the association. However, it is much more accessible than one of the original Gibson runs, which now change hands for very high sums of money on the used market.

I’m not the target audience for this type of guitar, but I think the graphic will divide opinions. Is it fabulous or a little tacky? That can only really be answered by the individual. I’m sure they will sell lots of them, and as with anything Hendrix-themed, they will probably go up in value over time.

I would have expected a rosewood fretboard for the price tag, as other brands include that as standard on far cheaper guitars.
