The MV7+ may not seem like it comes with much of anything, but surprisingly, a number of the latest generation microphones don’t come with anything other than their own microphone, so it’s important to note that Shure includes the microphone and USB support—there’s no podcast kit. Of course, if you want to save a few bucks and get some support and something else, you can also buy a nice microphone.
Pulling the mic out of the box and setting it up was a fairly quick process; aside from the fact that it took a little longer to arrange the table support. For the bulk of our testing, we’re using a USB connection because we think most gamers will use that, but you’ll have an XLR interface, which is still relatively plug-and-play anyway.
Our “middle user” tester had a very similar experience during the setup process. Since the USB-C and USB-C cable on both ends is relatively long, it is very convenient to use this microphone with a laptop in different locations and you will never feel that connecting it for meetings will be inconvenient.
How to use Shure MV7+
With the initial setup process made simple, the MV7+ continues this affordable trend, making the microphone incredibly enjoyable to use on a daily basis. When connected via USB or the MV7+, you have access to a series of resources that make it easier to use, but this makes a more significant difference during the sound isolation testing process.
This makes it very easy to manage the microphone label during gaming and even during Discord calls; you don’t need to unplug it to get the best audio quality from the MV7+. Proper labeling obviously helps, but it’s much less necessary and hardly more practical with this microphone. However, the table support is something that is only susceptible to wear if you have a battery like a mouse or a battery on the table with reasonable power.
In addition to the actual pop filter around the capsule, Shure includes a digital turn that limits the amount of plosives it picks up. Very quiet or playing during the test period. As someone who knows how to sit in front of a microphone, but doesn’t necessarily have the best voice to speak, I lean heavily on the plosivas that generally made me a thing of the past.
Our “average user” also loves the auto-leveling feature. These devices make it very easy to set up and configure this microphone. Being able to speak freely and not have to worry about whether you’re speaking too loudly or too softly is great for peace of mind, especially when you’re under pressure.
It's worth noting again that these resources are only available when connected via USB; if you choose to use this microphone with an XLR connection, you'll have to use an XLR interface and a noise gate, if necessary, to get a similar effect.

The USB connectivity is impressive for most users. However, it’s worth noting that the addition of an XLR output makes this microphone more appealing to higher-end users. You want a versatile microphone that can grow as your knowledge base grows. However, if you’re looking for a professional-quality microphone that can also be used with a USB cable while in transit for amazing quality, the MV7+ is the item you need.
There is also an audio phone connector that can be used connected via USB or XLR to hear the sound of snow while recording or transmitting.
Quality of sum
Special resources are valuable, but if the microphone can’t be used, they’re not worth much. Fortunately, that’s not the case with the MV7+. Shure has a reputation for delivering excellent microphone quality and they didn’t disappoint this time. No matter how loud or low your voice is, the MV7+ delivers a very natural sound quality that can be easily used in professional applications.
Noise processing on the table is not supported, as is voice isolation and a separate digital popper limiter. However, unless you want to use the microphone next to your face and reduce some noise, it is better to activate voice isolation if you want to eliminate the noise from the keyboard and mouse while transmitting or gaming.
Even when we used this microphone connected via XLR and the Zoom H6 as an interface, it was very easy to find comfortable settings that provided good snow and removed a small amount of background noise.
Programs
The Shure Motiv Mix software alone could be one of the two biggest selling points of this microphone, especially if you plan to use it solely through its USB connection. The software that comes with desktops often feels bloated and unnecessary, but the Motive Mix is the perfect way to avoid these stereotypes.
Not only does Motiv Mix provide access to great features like vocal isolation, digital popper, auto-leveling, tom and high-pass filters, but it also allows you to add multiple microphone inputs to a Windows machine. Anyone who has tried to do this knows how effective a head can be, and Motiv Mix makes it incredibly simple. All of your sources appear in the left column and you can drag and drop them into the mixer when you want to add them as an input source.
So, on Windows, all you have to do is select Motiv Mix Output as your input, and soon, you’ll have multiple people on your computer for a Discord call or stream with multiple microphones. Just use an XLR interface to give everyone their own microphones. You don’t need to use Shure microphones to make Motiv Mix available; anything that’s not a Windows input will usually show up in Motiv Mix.
