Battery Share has been a part of the Pixel series since the Google Pixel 5. In other words, it has been around since 2020. With that in mind. Google has nerfed the Battery Share feature with the Pixel 9 series, kind of.
Google has essentially nerfed the Battery Share feature on the Pixel 9 series
What exactly happened? Well, you can no longer use Battery Share if your Pixel is charging, that applies for the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold does not support Battery Share aka reverse wireless charging at all.
Battery Share is still there on the three aforementioned devices, but you can only use it if your Pixel 9 is not charging. If Battery Share is enabled when you plug in your phone, you’ll get the “Battery Share is unavailable during charging” message.
Yes, this pop-up will appear even if your phone is fully charged. As long as it’s plugged in, you won’t be able to use Battery Share. Granted, most of you probably use it while you’re out and about, when the phone is not plugged in, but… it’s worth noting.
Most of you probably don’t use this feature when the phone is plugged in, though
The vast majority of people use this feature to top off their truly wireless earbuds or something of the sort. If you use it only while the phone is not plugged in, you won’t care about this change. It is worth noting, though.
Why did Google make this change, though? Well, it could be due to battery health. Charging another device while a phone itself is being charged cannot really be good for the battery. This way we assume that the battery will last longer.
That’s the only reason that comes to mind, well, in addition to heat, but considering previous generations, that’s probably not it. Heat was never a problem in that scenario.
