More Information

We don’t often cover sample libraries in our weekly round-up of free plugins, but I had to make an exception for Antiquarian Echoes. Following up on the original Kontakt library of (almost) the same name released a few years ago, Antiquarian Echoes is a stand-alone plugin that takes the concept to a whole new level.

Antiquarian Echoes contains four distinct guitar pads created by running guitars through various pedals and outboard gear. Each has its own character, and you can blend the four textures to create one-of-a-kind pad sounds and evolving soundscapes. After adjusting the balance of the pads, you can use the filter and envelope controls to shape the sound.

The sound is wonderfully organic and warm and ranges from dark and mysterious to bright and dreamy. Perfect for ambient music, but also for cinematic sound design!

Antiquarian Echoes runs on macOS and Windows in AU, VST3, and AAX formats. The plugin is available for free, but we suggest that you name your own price to support the developer!

There are more and more free alternatives to commercial pitch correction software. Vox Tune by Vox Samples is a free and easy-to-use auto pitch effect that instantly tunes your vocals. Depending on the settings, it delivers anything from smooth pitch correction to hard pitching effects.

The GUI is simple, but there’s everything an auto pitch effect needs. Simply select the correct key and scale for your song, or toggle individual notes on or off using the mini keyboard at the bottom. Then, use the Smooth knob to dial in the desired speed of the retuning effect.

Vox Tune is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
