“So we’re looking for women who are between 50 and a few years old, who are likely to be experiencing hormonal changes,” Costa said. “They can’t lose weight as quickly and they have a harder time staying fit. Or there’s definitely a hormonal component. The other side is that your body changes as you get older.”

The menopause change process is not a specific set of procedures, but rather more selective, providing the patient with a completely personal and personalized experience.

“There’s no set set of procedures or anything like that. I would say the most common thing, long-term, is liposuction. There’s certainly some anecdotal and legitimate literature that supports just weight loss, but after menopause it gets really difficult,” she says. “I can’t say how many patients are on medication and they say they can’t lose weight after menopause.”

Costa also sees many patients who are on weight loss medications and now need skin removal procedures.

Top Misconceptions About Plastic Surgery

There are many different misconceptions about plastic surgery. One of the biggest misconceptions Costa said is the extreme cases and lack of education about the subject.

“Our patients are just regular people. I know that’s the biggest stigma. People assume that people who do plastic surgery are just these superstar Hollywood stars who look really weird. They don’t look like regular people who have a lot of Botox and pre-treatments and procedures and other things,” he said. “The truth is, people don’t usually do surgeries in my office.”

Costa reiterated that most of his patients are “just normal, ordinary people.”

“She looks very pretty or barely looks like me, and she feels better,” he said.

“As our technology and procedures advance, we’re able to do these procedures much safer than we normally would,” Costa explained. “We’re in a good area, and that’s why we go to medical meetings and other things, to try to figure out how to make these procedures safer for people, or what it means for older people to be able to do them safely and the risk is very low.”

“The barrier for patients who are potentially having surgery is that you know they feel like they're too old to have surgery, but that can't be any longer than the truth because obviously all surgeries have risks, but we're able to make this really dramatic transformation in patients who might have previously thought they wouldn't be good candidates for surgery or that they would only be able to do something small,” he said.

Costa also explained that the average 50-year-old's mindset is a stupid one.

“As a society, 50-year-olds do things, do a lot of things, work, run businesses, do a lot of different things,” he said. “And then doing things became more modern.”

It's not just women looking for aesthetic procedures. The trend of “dad bod” fixes is on the rise, with more and more people looking for specific procedures.

“Empora or male cosmetics are usually not reported in general social settings, and statistics show that the number of people seeking cosmetic procedures, such as plastic surgery, is the first time. In 2022 alone, 1.5 million people will undergo cosmetic procedures – a number that continues to rise, according to American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASPS),” Costa exclusively told The Blast.

“This is not to disrespect medical spa services, as specialists have noticed a surprising 253% increase in male patients from 2019 to 2022!”

The two most common procedures, according to Costa, are “Bro-tox” and pre-trimming of the jaw.
