Immensely popular social media platform TikTok has quietly introduced a new “Manage Topics” feature. TikTok’s new functionality allows you to fully customize the topics or the type of content you see in the For You feed. Using the app’s new tool, you can easily tailor the content recommendations you get in your For You feed. You now get the option to see more or less content on certain topics.
TikTok has introduced For You feed’s new topic customization feature in the US
TikTok has initially rolled out the new feature for its users in the US and will be released to more countries soon. The latest “Manage Topics” feature will let you customize your preferences for different topics. For example, you can now customize your For You feed in TikTok to see more content regarding topics like sports, dance, food, humor, current affairs, and travel.
TikTok users can access the new topics customization feature by going to Settings and selecting the “Content Preferences” option. Here, you can click on the “Manage Topics” option to proceed further. From there, you will be able to customize your preferences for content related to various topics.
Notably, there’s a slider to adjust how much do you want or don’t want to see content on certain topics. The sliders for different topics are set to a default middle ground, and you can tweak them from there. If you are not certain about the category of a topic, then simply click on the “information” button next to them. It will show you all the information about a specific topic category. For example, the Creative arts topic category includes tutorials related to painting, drawing, and graphic design.
The new feature shows users more or less content related to their topic selection
The new “Manage Topics” feature gives us a peak behind the curtain, especially regarding the platform’s content recommendation system. With the new customization option, TikTok wants to show users more content related to the topics they like the most. It’s worth mentioning that the new selections in the “Manage Topics” section will not impact the content you see from the accounts you follow.
Also, it may take some time for the platform to personalize the For You feed based on new topics. So don’t expect the customization in the “Manage Topics” setting to be applied instantly.
