Google started shipping two of the new Pixel 9 phones – the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL – to early buyers earlier this month. Now, the search titan’s second foldable smartphone, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, will hit the market shelves next week. Ahead of the new foldable phone’s availability next week, the company has dropped some sad news for those looking to buy it.

Unfortunately, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold appears to have compatibility issues with the Pixel Stand wireless charger. The company has officially confirmed this information on the support website for the Pixel phones.

You can’t charge the Pixel 9 Pro Fold using the Pixel Stand or Pixel Stand 2

Google recently updated the support pages for the Pixel phones on its website. The updated information on the website mentions that the Pixel 9 Pro doesn’t support the Pixel Stand and Pixel Stand 2, the company’s official wireless chargers. The latest foldable phone’s wireless charging coil is the issue behind the incompatibility with the Pixel Stand.

“Pixel 9 Pro Fold doesn’t support the Pixel Stand but it supports many other wireless chargers”, mentions the support page. “The position of the charging coil for Pixel 9 Pro Fold isn’t perfectly centered compared to previous Pixel phones. This might make it difficult for you to charge your phone wirelessly”, Google explained further.

The support page for the Pixel phone now also has a picture. It shows the position of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s wireless charging coil. It is placed quite low on the back as compared to the other Pixel phones.

You’ll need to look for alternative wireless charging solutions

If you are planning to get the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, then you will need to look for alternative wireless charging solutions. Several third-party wireless charging pads support the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. They come in various sizes, shapes, and styles, so you can buy one that suits your requirements.

It’s worth mentioning that you don’t need to buy an expensive wireless charger for the latest Google foldable offering. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold can only pull 7.5W power wirelessly. Any wireless charger capable of delivering at least 10W power will be just fine.

A good example is the KARTICE Wireless Charging Stand.
