Tri-fold smartphones have been all over the news lately. Huawei is aiming to actually launch one next month, while TECNO showed us its concept tri-fold device. Well, OPPO has a tri-fold concept smartphone of its own, and it just showed it off to the world.
OPPO has a tri-fold concept smartphone of its own, and its design has just been shown
The render of the phone was shown off by Zhou Yibao, the product manager for the OPPO Find series. He went to Weibo (China’s social media network) to share this render with everyone, and you can see it below.
You can clearly see that there are two hinges included here. They do look different from the back, though. You will also notice that the display bezels are almost non-existent.
OPPO seemingly used vegan leather on the back here, at least that’s what it looks like. The interface running on the phone is ColorOS, but a modified version of it, of course. The widgets are huge, and the taskbar contains a ton of elements.
This concept phone seems to be quite thin when unfolded. In fact, it seems to be so thin, that it’s probably not thick when folded either. TECNO actually said that its tri-fold concept is only 10mm thick. Needless to say, that’s more than manageable. In fact, it’s thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which is a regular foldable.
Huawei will be the first company to actually launch a tri-fold smartphone
Huawei will definitely be the first to actually launch a tri-fold smartphone. It was confirmed that the device will become available next month. Chances are that it will be limited to China, though.
It remains to be seen how thin will Huawei’s tri-fold smartphone be when folded. We do expect it to be quite expensive, though. At the moment, we also know that Samsung is working on a tri-fold smartphone of its own.
We imagine that bringing those devices to the market is not cheap, so it remains to be seen how many of them we’ll see in the next year or so. It would be nice to see companies start pushing them to the market, though, and create some competition in that space. There’s certainly a market for such devices.
