Google has been adding about as many features to Gemini as it can, and the company still isn’t stopping. It’s not shy about dropping a group of new features on us at a moment’s notice. Google just announced three new Gemini updates that will make the platform much better.

Google announced three new Gemini updates, and the first one is Gems
This is something that Google announced during Google I/O this year. We’re all used to using Gemini as it comes straight from Google. However, did you ever want to customize how Gemini responds? Well, Gems give you the ability to do that. Gems are customizable Gemini-powered chatbots. Think of them as Google’s equivalent to OpenAI’s GPTs.
If you want to create a chatbot that’s specialized for certain tasks, you’ll be able to create and customize your own chatbots. Say, you want to create a chatbot that’s specialized for accounting. You can cater a chatbot specifically for that.
Google is also launching premade Gems to help you get started. These Gems are a Learning coach, Brainstormer, Career guide, Writing editor, and Coding partner. Gems are rolling out now for Gemini Advanced, Business, and Enterprise users.
Imagen 3
Next up, Google is finally rolling out its Imagen 3 image model. Users can use the model to generate images using text prompts. Since this is the newest model, users are able to create images that are more realistic with, hopefully, less AI jankiness.
Just like with the Imagen 2 model, there are safeguards that prevent people from generating controversial images. Images generated with Imagen 3 also have the synthID. This is the watermarking technology that lets the system identify that it’s an AI-generated image.

The last update is basically Google returning a feature that it took away. Several months ago, Google ran into a controversy where it depicted historical figures with inaccurate skin tones and ethnicities.
Because of this, the company halted the ability to generate images with people in them. Well, Google announced that it’s going to return this ability over the next couple of days. However, it’s not coming to everyone. The company is giving early access to Gemini Advanced, Business, and Enterprise users. After that, the company will push the capability.
