This year, Google has been working on streamlining the process of downloading apps and updates from the Play Store. Previously, users could download only one app update at a time, which could be a bit of a pain. However, now the Play Store allows you to update multiple apps at once.
The Play Store is one of Google’s core services. It’s the gateway to the vast majority of apps available on Android. From time to time, the company adds improvements and new features to enhance the user experience of its own app store. The company has added everything from UI redesigns to remote installation of apps on other devices, among several other features. However, one thing that remained unchanged was the number of app updates you could download at once.
The new Play Store limit of three app updates at a time is rolling out
The usual Play Store behavior only allowed you to download one update at a time. Even when you tapped the “Update all” button from “Pending downloads,” you had to wait for each app’s download and installation process individually. This seemed like a waste of modern broadband internet connections that could easily download multiple updates at once. It also did not take advantage of the speed of the latest storage formats present on smartphones.
That said, the Play Store already allows you to update multiple apps at once. The limit is three updates at a time, while the other apps in the list show the classic “Pending” message. Google was testing the new feature earlier this year, but it vanished overnight. Now it seems the company has begun a wider rollout of the feature.
The tweak also applies to new app downloads
The new limit on downloading three app updates at a time matches Apple’s App Store. Lastly, the latest change also applies to downloading new apps, where the Play Store only supported two at a time.
