Don't Show Again Yes, I would!

Meet TECNO Phantom Ultimate 2, the company’s tri-fold concept

Tri-fold smartphones have been mentioned frequently lately, mainly because of Huawei. Huawei is expected to announce its very own tri-fold smartphone next month. As we’re waiting for that to happen, TECNO has something to share with us. The company just showed off the TECNO Phantom Ultimate 2, its very own tri-fold smartphone, though just a concept one.

The TECNO Phantom Ultimate 2 is the company’s new concept phone, a tri-fold device

Along with this announcement, the company shared four images of the device. All four of those images are included in the gallery below the article. As you can see, the device is quite large when unfolded, and quite thin.

We don’t know how thin it is when it’s unfolded, but when folded it measures only 11mm. That is something that TECNO confirmed. The company also said that, when unfolded, this phone offers a 10-inch display with TDDI technology.

If you’re wondering why does it have the number ‘2’ in the name, well, it’s the second Phantom Ultimate concept. The first one was shown off at iFA 2023 last year, and it was a rollable concept smartphone. No, that device did not launch thus far, it remained just a concept.

This phone has “the smartphone industry’s thinnest battery cover”

In any case, let’s get back to the new model. The TECNO Phantom Ultimate 2 has “the smartphone industry’s thinnest battery cover”, it measures just 0.25mm thanks to “super compressed Titan Advanced Fiber material”.

When completely folded, this phone offers a 6.48-inch display. When unfolded, a 10-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio is on offer. Thep hone offers ‘OLED Touch’ and ‘Display Driver Integration (TDDI)’. On top of that, a 3K LTPO screen with 392 PPI is included.

It also includes a “state-of-the-art hinge design”

TECNO also mentioned that it included a “state-of-the-art hinge design” with 2,100MPa strength, there are two of those here. They can withstand over 300,000 folds.

Considering it’s a tri-fold smartphone, TECNO also included software support for different setups. For example, a ‘tent mode’ is supported for dual-screen face-to-face real-time AI translations. The base of the screen can also be laid down, and serve as a keyboard, while the other two displays can be placed in an upright position.

No, you won’t be able to buy it, this is just a concept phone

Now, TECNO did make this phone, and it’s apparently in the working state, but no, you won’t be able to buy it. This is just a concept phone, at least for now. It does show us the possibilities of this technology, as we’ll hopefully start seeing such devices in the market soon. Well, the first one is coming next month. TECNO is planning to launch two foldables soon, though, its new clamshell and book-style foldable.
