If you’ve ever bought MicroSD cards, HDDs, or SSDs, you’ll probably be familiar with Kingston. The company has a long history in the market and offers a wide range of products, including RAM, NVMe SSDs, portable SSDs, and tons of gaming products. Now, Kingston has announced a red variant for its award-winning XS1000 external SSD.
Kingston launched the XS1000 in September 2023. In addition to its capacity and high speeds, the product is stylish and portable. The product weighs less than 29 grams, and its compact design enables it to function as a keychain. Plus, its look is discreet and elegant at the same time. All of these virtues led the XS1000 to receive the 2024 Red Dot Award.
Kingston XS1000 external SSD now available in red
The Red Dot Awards annually reward the best exponents of design in the tech industry. After receiving the award, Keith Schimmenti, Kingston’s SSD business manager, said that the company “takes pride in receiving the Red Dot Design Award as it highlights our commitment to sleek and portable storage solutions.” Until now, the product was only available in a sleek black colorway. However, perhaps inspired by the award, Kingston has released a red colorway for the XS1000 external SSD.
The new variant has red on the back and front while keeping black on the sides. This creates a contrast that makes it stand out even more than the original model. “Building on the success of the all-black XS1000, we’ve introduced a new colorway for those customers looking to stand out and express themselves through color,” said Schimmenti.
Kingston believes that functionality and attractive design can go hand in hand. However, the two colors share the same technical specifications. That means it still boasts USB 3.2 Gen 2 support with read speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s. It is also available in two capacity variants: 1TB and 2TB. If you are looking for even higher performance, the company also offers the XS2000 external SSD. However, the latter is not available in the new color.
You can buy the Kingston XS1000 external SSD for $85 from the company’s website in black and red. On the other hand, the faster (but less stylish) XS2000 external SSD starts at $91.
