Samsung has released one book-style foldable every year since 2019. Now, the company is expected to add another book-style foldable to its sixth-generation lineup, rumored to be named the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim. This upcoming foldable is anticipated to launch in September this year.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim receives certification in Samsung’s home country
In the latest news, 91mobiles has spotted a Samsung device with model number SM-F958N on the Korean Testing & Research Institute for Chemical Industry (KTR) certification platform. The model number is very similar to SM-F956N of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and is likely to represent the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim. The certification confirms that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim will be available in Samsung’s home country.
According to a report out of South Korea, the company could launch the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim in South Korea on September 25th. It also suggests that the company could also launch the phone in China as the Samsung Galaxy W25 to compete with the upcoming foldables from Chinese manufacturers such as Huawei and Honor. It’s currently unclear whether the phone will be available in the US and other markets.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim may not support the S Pen functionality
As the name suggests, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim is likely a thinner version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. In fact, it will likely be the thinnest foldable Samsung has to offer. However, according to rumors, it might not be as slim as the Honor Magic V3. According to rumors, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim could measure 10mm while closed. For reference, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 measures 12.1mm while closed.
Samsung has reportedly removed the S Pen compartment and the 0.3mm digitizer film necessary for the S Pen’s functionality. Competitors prove that reducing thickness without losing functionality is possible. However, this move might intend to differentiate the phone from the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Nonetheless, according to a person familiar with the development, “Samsung is doing everything they can to make it even 0.1 millimeters thinner…The global smartphone market is shifting its focus to how thin the next product can be”.
