Don't Show Again Yes, I would!

Apple’s first smart ring could offer more than just fitness tracking

Have you ever thought of owning a tiny wearable device that could not just control your smartphone but also your smart home appliances? Well, that could soon be true, thanks to Apple. Earlier this year, some reports hinted that Apple is mulling over the design and concept of its first finger wearable device, a smart ring. Although smart rings are known for their fitness and health-tracking abilities, Apple’s upcoming smart finger wearable might be different altogether.

Apple’s first smart ring device would be much more than just a fitness tracker

The news comes via Apple Insider today which spotted the latest patent application from Apple. Interestingly, the said patent reveals some groundbreaking details about Apple’s first smart ring. Per the latest patent, the first-ever Apple ring could act as a middleman between all your devices. Meaning, you can use the smart ring to control your iPhones, Apple TV, and Mac as well as your smart home devices right from your finger. Well, yet another example of Apple doing Apple things.

If you look closely at the image below, you can see a person wearing some kind of smart glasses which could represent the Apple Vision Pro in this context. The representative image also gives you some idea of how Apple’s first smart ring would control different devices.

The patent itself describes that a smart ring includes multiple sensors within. This includes proximity sensors, force sensors, and even a microphone. All combined, will help Apple’s smart ring to detect your gestures and commands directed towards it. An example of this would be pointing towards a smart lamp and saying “turn off” to shut off the light source in your room before heading to bed.

The first finger wearable of the company could be your personal assistant too

As with every other smart ring, it could also keep track of your health and fitness giving you data about heart rate, steps, sleep routines, etc. And, possibly allow you to export such data to your iPhone or MacBook for better insights. It’s all very similar to the Galaxy Ring. On the health front and fitness tracking front, the latest finger wearable device from Samsung can already do that.

There’s more that Apple wants its smart ring to do. For example, the smart ring could be your personal assistant device which works right from your finger. You could use it to send messages, set alarms, or find your iPhone. Honestly, the possibility is immense, it’s up to Apple what it wants to pack into those rings.

Considering everything above, Apple is rapidly exploring a different concept of a future-proof smart ring which is yet to debut in the market. Time will tell when the smart ring from Apple makes its way to its users.
